Winter Warmer Chutney
This is delicious Chutney and a great way of using up a bounty of apples. All the family are waiting with anticipation for this seasons chutney, its a winner and Easy!
You will need
5-6 Sterilised Jars
2kg of cooking apples or any type – peeled, cored, and chopped into small pieces.
2 medium onions finely chopped
1 large tablespoon of mustard seeds
1 large tablespoon of coriander seeds
1 tablespoon of ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cloves
2 teaspoon of chilli powder or flakes or 2-3 red fresh chillies
850 mls of white wine vinegar
900 gms soft brown or demerara sugar
Juice and zest of 1 orange
Place Apples, sultanas, onions and spices in a large heavy-based pot with about 2/3rds of the vinegar.
Bring to boil then simmer covered for 30mins until completely cooked.
Then add remaining vinegar and sugar and stir constantly till dissolved. Finally add the juice and zest of the orange.
Simmer with the lid off until thick stirring constantly.
Spoon into dry, warm sterilised jars, cover each with a wax disc then seal and label.
Enjoy with cheese and bread…..
