The Six-Step Design Process To Your New Garden

Your new garden journey starts here, from start to finish. We go through each stage of exploring, listening, and evolving to achieve your fully transformed garden.

Step 1.

Consultation - Your Wish List

  • We start with an initial garden design consultation. During the meeting, we look at your house and garden, its current functions and, importantly, your requirements and aspirations.
  • Research is undertaken to look at the soil, sun and surrounding landscape.
  • We work collaboratively to develop your unique Wish list.
  • At this stage a Garden Topographical Survey is required to understand your site measuring your space, understanding level changes, drainage issues and any existing trees and plants.
  • This gives us a good starting point for producing accurate plans for building on a budget and considering all possibilities. (this can be undertaken by us for small sites; however, for more complicated sites, this will be outsourced)

Step 2.

Concept Design

  • Next, we create a new layout for your garden using sketches and images to visualise and explore different options.
  • We look at materials and features you would like to include, which translates from your wish list.
  • These documents allow us to forge and refine ideas and see potential new possible layouts for your new garden, working towards the next stage.

Step 3.

Master Design

  • Presentation of a beautifully detailed garden design, showing all the new features, with elements laid out and confirmation of materials and finishes.
  • Planting beds and trees will be illustrated to give a realistic finish.
  • 3D sketches and digital rendering will bring to life your new garden.

  • To enhance your evenings, lighting should be something to consider at this stage. As we'll need to provide technical drawings so work can be undertaken during the construction stage.
  • How you want to maintain the health of your garden after completion will also need to be considered at this stage, as services like irrigation will need to be planned and implemented during the construction stage.

Step 4.

Technical Drawings

  • A full set of beautifully scaled technical drawings are drawn up, showing all the design features, paving, drainage, and construction elements, along with detailed specifications for hard and soft landscaping elements (lawns, trees, and borders).
  • This will enable the landscaper to prepare their quotation and effectively define and quality check the build from the start.

  • Since almost every outdoor space is unique, bespoke features such as lighting, seating, or pergolas can require additional technical drawings and consideration. This can be discussed with the contractor at the time of quoting.

Step 5.

Planting Plans

  • We work with you to create a planting palette which will suit your soil and garden conditions.
  • We will look at the plant selection for colour, form, flowering time, all-year-round interest, and style.
  • Planting plants is easy to follow, using symbols to represent plants in their precise location.
  • A detailed plant list with quantities will be drawn up, and we will personally select plants from our own nursery and a network of local growers.
  • Quotes will be provided, and stock availability and planning logistics for delivery will start.
  • Our specialist planting teams can then be provided where needed.

Step 6.

Project Monitoring & Additional Services

  • Once the project is underway, we will be on hand from start to finish.
  • We will visit the site regularly and support your relationship with your contractor throughout the build phase.
  • This ensures everything is built according to the design and with a quality finish to give you peace of mind and make this an enjoyable process.
  • We can be there as much or as little as your budget allows.
  • Additional services may be required as the project develops and to future-proof any changes, such as the installation of additional power sockets, lighting, water management, irrigation, and bespoke items.
