Urban Family Home with a Tropical Twist

Our clients envisioned a garden that would serve as a retreat from the demands of daily life—a space to relax, entertain family and friends, and escape the working world. With a dramatic level change spanning over five meters, the garden was thoughtfully divided into distinct zones, each designed to fulfil different needs.

A Multi-Level Garden Oasis

The rear garden was divided into four unique areas. Stepping outside the new glass doors, you are immediately greeted by a breathtaking Foras Stone water feature, overflowing amidst lush ferns and a striking Acer tree. Nearby, handcrafted hardwood seating offers the perfect spot to enjoy a morning coffee or unwind after a long day.

Elegant steps lead to the next level, revealing a stunning dining area and an outdoor kitchen, all sheltered beneath a bespoke timber canopy. This space is framed by beautifully maintained yew hedging and herbaceous borders, including Amerlanchier trees and Calycanthus ‘Hartlage Wine’, creating a lush, inviting atmosphere.

At the heart of this level lies a striking bespoke water feature with stainless steel fountains. A seamless continuation of the paving allows guests to cross over the water feature, guiding them toward the upper level.

A Tropical Escape

Ascending to the upper level, you enter a tropical haven. A stunning hardwood deck surrounds a partially sunken hot tub, which is enveloped by a rich tapestry of tropical planting, including bananas, ferns, and acers. A thoughtfully placed pergola enhances the sense of seclusion, creating a tranquil sanctuary of greenery.

Below, a spacious reseeded lawn provides an open area for relaxation, while newly built raised beds offer space for growing herbs like rosemary—perfect for summer barbecues—and fresh vegetables for the home. Along the garden walls, espalier trees have been planted, bursting into a breathtaking display of blossoms each spring while also encouraging biodiversity.
